Best Vineyards Winery Accepted into the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail
SpringsValley.com News Lexington, KY USA By Megan Adams, SpringsValley.com News Staff
FRENCH LICK, IN-Indiana Uplands Wine Trail expands with addition of
Best Vineyards Winery, of Elizabeth, IN. As of June of last year, Best
Vineyards Winery has participated in the 2009-2010 Uplands passport
program and in the upcoming events, Winter in the Uplands, Chocolate
Lover's Weekends, March Gladness and Toast to Spring.
"Best Vineyards Winery is extremely honored to be accepted into the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail (IUWT) and Grape Growers COOP," said Wilbert Best, owner and vintner.
"The IUWT mission is to produce high quality wines from grapes
grown in this area and I am extremely pleased that our wines express
the unique characteristics of the Uplands."
The IUWT is the first wine trail and grape growers coop in Indiana
and is presently comprised of Butler, Brown County, Carousel, French
Lick, Huber, Oliver, Turtle Run and Winzerwald wineries. The Indiana
Uplands are located in south central Indiana, running from the Monroe
County/Morgan County line north of Bloomington, south to the Ohio
River, a distance of roughly 110 miles. The Uplands are the remnants of
an unglaciated plateau. This is reflected today in the topography, soil
types and natural plant communities found in the area. Climatic data
also illustrates that the Uplands are unique from surrounding areas
resulting in wines of distinctly different character.
"We are proud to include Best Vineyards Winery in the Uplands
Trail. Owner Wilbert Best has worked very hard to
produce quality

SANTA
CLAUS, IN -- Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari officials expect to

Popular Louisville Amusement Park Anounces Plans to Close
SpringsValley.com News Lexington, KY USA By Megan Adams, SpringsValley.com News Staff
Despite the onslaught of recent lay-offs and business closures that have come to be expected during these poor economic conditions, it can still be rather startling to learn of the end of such an established corporate enterprise as Louisville's Kentucky Kingdom. The park opened in 1987, was briefly closed, and reopened in 1990, becoming a major financial asset to the Louisville area in the following decades. In 1997 the park had more visitors than Churchill Downs.
Recent years have been tough for Kentucky Kingdom, now operating under the ownership of Six Flags. Between the recession and two major incidents involving the serious injury of park-goers from amusement rides, the company has been struggling to remain open. Yesterday the park made the announcement that it would not re-open for the 2010 season.
From a February 4th Six Flags Press Release:
Six Flags announced today that as it nears the scheduled end of its
restructuring process, it has decided to reject its lease with the
Kentucky State Fair Board relating to the Kentucky Kingdom park. In
recent weeks, Six Flags had proposed a new lease arrangement to the
fair board that would have enhanced the viability and future of the
park. Unfortunately, those proposals were not accepted and the park
will cease operations. The company will move to
re-locate employees and many of the more than 40 rides and
attractions to one of its 13 other markets.
"We are deeply disappointed to be leaving such a great fan base in the
greater metropolitan area of Louisville and we are grateful to the
thousands of employees at Kentucky Kingdom and the millions of guests
for their dedication, support and loyalty over the years," said Mark
Shapiro, Six Flags President and CEO.
"This action relates solely to Kentucky Kingdom," Shapiro continued. "The substantial lease
payment has been a significant hurdle for this park in recent years. Our other parks, which reside
largely on company-owned land, will be completely unaffected and will open as scheduled for the full 2010 season."
Despite claims that the park will be relocating employees, the economic impact that the closure will have on the Greater Louisville area will likely be unfavorable. The closing of such a popular family attraction will, at the very least, be a bruise to the morale of the area.
It is unknown how Holiday World, the family-owned amusement park in Santa Claus, Indiana, is fairing during the same economic conditions that have seen the end of so many entertainment based businesses. While the 63 year old park seems to be holding its own, the closure of perhaps its biggest rival, only a 1 hour drive away, will likely provide a considerable boost to the park in the coming years, a favorable result for Southern Indiana's own recovering economy.
But whatever the impact of the closing of this beloved

Springs Valley offers Fun and Unique Valentine's Day Activities
SpringsValley.com News
Lexington, KY USA
By Megan Adams, SpringsValley.com News Staff
Whether it's dining and dancing, music, fun for the kids or hitting the ski slopes, it can be done in the Springs Valley area the weekend of February 14th. The big day is not that far away so it's time to make some plans.
Valentine's
Day, for some, is an opportunity to
celebrate a romantic relationship. However, for many couples, it often
means playing a high stakes game of who loves whom the most, and
shamelessly putting the fate of one's relationship in the hands of a
pompous maître d' at the overbooked, over-priced, and under portioned
restaurant in one's home town.
Whether you're a Valentine's Day
Pro or part of the larger, latter group, February 14th can be a
tricky day that sneaks up on you while you're still recovering from
Christmas and New Years. Brace yourself folks, it's coming!
But don't panic and dive for your
Zagat guide just yet. Springs Valley, the most popular tourist
destination in Southern Indiana, has you covered this year. The
Springs Valley destinations have been planning their Valentine's Day
since before most of you had returned your ugly Christmas gifts. No
matter what your pleasure, this resort town can accommodate you.
Valentine's Day weekend activities at
the French Lick Resort vary as much as the people who participate in
them.
For those who believe romance and
chocolate should always go together, Saturday afternoon's Decadent
Valentine's Chocolate Festival will be the perfect, simple evening
you want. For a small cover charge at the door, you and your partner
can be chocolate connoisseurs for a few delicious hours.
After indulging in your favorite
chocolate, put on your dancing shoes because the resort will be
hosting a Valentine's dance on Saturday night from 8pm until
midnight. The event will feature a variety of great dance tunes from
soft rock to disco.
If you and your partner love music but
sadly have two left feet, sit back and let others entertain at the
Valentine's Jazz Dinner, beginning at 6 pm on Saturday, at the
exclusive West Baden Springs Hotel. This romantic evening package
includes Saturday night dinner with wine service, the sophisticated
jazz stylings of Sarah Stivers, overnight accommodations, and Sunday
brunch at the Café at Sinclair’s.
And what would Valentine's Day be
without those who choose to rebel against it? If you remain
unimpressed by any of the resort's more traditional options, if you
believe that Valentine's day is an over-hyped holiday, created by
greeting card companies to boost mid-winter profits, and especially
if frustration over this obvious scam tends to bring out your morbid
side, don't worry! French Lick has you covered too!
On Sunday, February 14th,
the hotel will be hosting a Valentine’s
Day Massacre Murder Mystery Dinner Show where the cast is plagued by a love quadrangle. The end result, while
not as gory as the 1929 Saint Valentine's Day Massacre, is still
rather startling. Who will perish and can you identify the murderer?
The weapon? Try to solve the mystery before you are hit by Cupid’s
Arrow, too! Enjoy this romantic thriller, which includes a delicious
lunch served at Noon, followed by a 1pm show.
